Surviving adversity: the intersection between cognition, bodily experience and social environment in homeless people
Abstact
The paper addresses the influence of the cultural and social environment on the developmental biology and cognitive variability of homeless people, with a particular emphasis on bodily experience, drug use and violence. From an anthropological perspective, the complex interactions between these factors and their impact on cognitive development are explored.
Semblance
PhD and Master's Degree in Physical Anthropology from the National School of Anthropology and History (ENAH), Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the Faculty of Psychology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Co-founder of Psicocalle Colectivo, an initiative to disseminate scientific knowledge about the use of psychoactive substances among young people living on the street. She has presented in more than 80 national and international forums, both academic and community, her line of research is Neuroanthropology and Public Health, highlighting research on use and consumption of inhalants in street population, use and consumption of marijuana, use and transgression of public space in the periphery of Mexico City, social inequality and marginality.
